Nick Davies started as Head of Brighton College (Singapore), in April 2024. Nick had previously worked at 3 senior independent schools in the UK. After serving as a commissioned officer in the UK military, Nick returned to his own secondary school, Hampton School near London in 2006, to begin his career as a Geography teacher. Nick has always enjoyed the breadth of opportunities that teaching offers, and during his time at Hampton, as well as teaching Geography, he used his military experience to support the school’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF), as well as helping pupils through the Duke of Edinburgh’s award program. Nick also thoroughly enjoyed coaching both rugby and cricket teams, in all schools where he has worked. He married, Annika who is now a director of marketing, in 2009.
Nick later moved to Haileybury College in Hertfordshire as Head of Geography. During his time in charge of the department, Haileybury’s geography pupils achieved some outstanding GCSE, A-level and IB examination results. Nick introduced some new academic trips during this time, leading trips to locations as diverse as Iceland, Morocco and Uganda. Nick then became a housemaster at Haileybury, running Thomason House- a term time home for 60 boys aged 13-18, for 4 years- life was not dull, especially since Nick’s time at Haileybury coincided with the arrival of his son Ben in 2012 and his daughter Isabella in 2015! Nick also became Contingent Commander of Haileybury’s CCF. In 2018, Nick was promoted again to senior deputy head of Stamford School in Lincolnshire, before in 2022, being promoted once more to acting Headmaster at Stamford. During this time, Stamford school underwent a merger with nearby Stamford High School, thereby becoming a fully co-educational school for approximately 1300pupils, from September 2023.
Nick was delighted to join the Brighton family of schools as Head of Brighton College (Singapore), admiring the group’s clear focus on the academic success of their pupils, as well as the key role that the Brighton College values of kindness, confidence, and curiosity play in everything that Brighton College schools do. The fact that an opportunity to lead one of Brighton College’s schools has come with a move to south-east Asia, into a country as exhilarating as Singapore, is something that Nick was particularly thrilled by. Certainly, he is passionate about ensuring that, as Brighton College (Singapore) grows into a superb all-through school, catering for pupils aged 18 months old to 18 years old, it emulates the same approaches, the same values, and ultimately, the same successes, of the UK’s school of the decade, Brighton College in the UK.
