Laura Barmes

Laura completed her PGCE in Primary Education at UCL’s Institute of Education in 2014. Since then, she has enjoyed a fast-paced and exciting career, holding a number of teaching and leadership positions across London and Southeast Asia. Prior to moving to Singapore, she spend 5 years teaching at St Andrews International school in Bangkok, Thailand. During her time in Thailand, she became head of Key Stage 2, as well as whole school Literacy leader.

She is extremely passionate about children’s literature, and a strong believer that ‘happy, inspired children learn best’. She has experience of designing and leading training workshops for parents and staff on a number of current and important topics including ‘Developing a love for reading’, ‘Building strong foundations for number acquisition’, and ‘Raising successful 21st century learners’.

Laura grew up in France, to Irish/Australian parents. She is fully bilingual and has first-hand experience of both the wonders and the complexities that surround growing up as a ‘third culture kid’. In her free time, she can often be found reading articles about new, emerging educational practice, as well as spending quality time with her husband and toddler in all of Singapore’s excellent outdoor spaces.
