At Brighton College (Singapore), we believe education is fundamentally about helping young people flourish. Our Digital Strategy 2026–2029 sets out how we will build a balanced, thoughtful and human-centered digital culture that supports pupils academically, socially and emotionally while strengthening creativity, character, wellbeing, and human connection.

What does this mean for daily life at Brighton College (Singapore)?

Technology is chosen deliberately when it genuinely enriches learning, extends creativity, not as a replacement for proven methods that remain highly valuable. Some examples would be pupils may research online before synthesising ideas independently, collaborate digitally before presenting face-to-face, or use approved GenAI tools to explore ideas and receive feedback while still being expected to think critically, develop their own arguments and produce authentic work. The balance is intentional. The focus remains on deep thinking, strong relationships and purposeful learning.

A mobile phone free environment – Brighton College (Singapore) is a completely mobile phone free school, including on school buses, helping pupils to remain present, engaged and connected with those around them

Age-appropriate use of Generative AI – Access to Generative AI tools is limited to pupils in Year 9 and above, recognising the importance of developing foundational knowledge, critical thinking and digital maturity before introducing these technologies.

Technology enhances learning, rather than dominates it – Digital devices are used when they add value to teaching and learning. Hands-on experiences, discussion, practical activities and collaboration remain central to the pupil experience.

A safe and secure digital environment – School-managed systems, content filtering and safeguarding measures help provide a secure online environment for pupils both in school and when using school devices.

Consistency across the College – Common platforms and clear expectations reduce complexity and provide a more seamless experience for pupils, staff and families.

Digital citizenship and wellbeing are taught explicitly – Pupils learn how to navigate the digital world safely, ethically and responsibly, including topics such as online relationships, misinformation, media literacy and the responsible use of AI.

A balanced approach to screen use – We recognise the importance of balance. Technology is one of many tools available to teachers and is used thoughtfully alongside reading, writing, creativity, physical activity and face-to-face interaction.

Purposeful devices and age-appropriate provision – Younger pupils use school-managed iPads within a structured environment, while older pupils use managed MacBooks that support creativity, collaboration and preparation for digital examinations.

Preparation for the future – Pupils progressively develop digital fluency, computational thinking and AI literacy, ensuring they are equipped to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

We recognise that families sometimes ask whether technology is replacing traditional learning. Our approach is clear: it is not. Writing by hand, reading physical texts, discussion, sketching, practical work and learning away from screens remain deeply valued and a significant part of our daily lives. These approaches continue to play an essential role in developing thinking, creativity, communication and concentration.

Technology is selected carefully when it improves learning, enables collaboration or creates opportunities that would otherwise not be possible. Some days the right tool is a pencil. Other days it is a laptop. In every case, learning comes first.

AT HOME
