Sian Denholm

Sian is from Epsom, Surrey, England. She has also been lucky enough to live in Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Vietnam. Having lost count of the number of times she has visited the country, Sian is thrilled to be joining the Brighton College (Singapore) team and the Singapore community.

At the University of Southampton, Sian gained her undergraduate degree in Criminology. Following this, she travelled around Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Having thoroughly enjoyed TEFL teaching to pupils of all ages during this time, Sian realised that teaching is where her passion lies. Returning to the UK to become more qualified in teaching, Sian studied at University College London through the Teach First Leadership Development Programme to obtain her Post-Graduate Diploma in Education in Secondary English teaching. During this time, Sian worked at an inner London secondary school. Once finishing her diploma, she moved to Thailand to teach English and become a middle leader at Harrow International School Bangkok.

Sian feels the values of Brighton College (Singapore) to develop young people who are kind, curious, and confident are inspiring and highly important; these traits certainly align with her own teaching values and practice. The ‘light bulb moments’ of a pupil learning something new are her favourite thing about being a teacher—witnessing new understanding and knowledge take hold is a true privilege.
