EARLY YEARS TO LOWER-PREP SCHOOL

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
At Brighton, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Lessons end at 3.30pm, leaving time for clubs and activities. Our EYFS and Lower Prep school activities in Singapore – from field trips and outdoor education to community projects – offer hands-on experiences that deepen learning and broaden perspectives. Termly field trips to local parks, museums, and cultural events connect classroom learning to real-world experiences, sparking curiosity and igniting a love for discovery. Our pupils recently explored the S.E.A. Aquarium, home to over 100,000 marine animals, and the Singapore Zoo, celebrated for its award-winning rainforest setting. These world-class attractions provided unforgettable learning experiences, inspiring curiosity and fostering a deeper connection with nature.
Our PE curriculum is structured progressively, so your child develops coordination, balance, and fundamental movement skills appropriate to their age. Values like sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair play are taught through every session, not as abstract concepts but through real games and activities.
Pupils in Reception also enjoy swimming as part of their EYFS sports programme. By fostering a love for physical activity, we aim to nurture lifelong engagement in sports. For pupils excelling in sports, we provide tailored opportunities to refine their skills and achieve their full potential.

From Reception, pupils choose from co-curricular activities (CCAs) that let them try new things in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Popular CCAs include art, ballet, robotics, cooking, and drama – the programme changes each term so your child can explore widely before committing to favourites.
Discover how our early years curriculum complements these activities across the school. House competitions, swim galas, and sports days bring the school community together and give every child a chance to contribute, not only those on competitive teams.
Reception and Lower Prep pupils choose from CCAs including art, ballet, robotics, cooking, and drama. The programme rotates each term, which means your child can sample different activities over the year rather than being locked into one choice. New CCAs are introduced based on pupil interest and teacher expertise.
Swimming is part of the EYFS and Lower Prep curriculum for pupils in Reception onwards. Swim galas are held annually as a highlight of the school calendar.
CCAs give children a space to take risks and try things they might not attempt in the classroom – a shy child may find confidence through drama, or a restless learner may focus through robotics. Each activity builds skills that complement academic work: collaboration, problem-solving, fine motor control, and creative expression.
Each term, EYFS and Lower Prep pupils have opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom through visits to local destinations or special experiences delivered in school. Trips to places such as parks, museums and cultural attractions are carefully chosen to connect directly with what children are learning in class. Alternatively, we welcome visitors into school, such as authors, performers and specialists, who provide engaging experiences linked to the children’s learning
Recent experiences have included visits to the S.E.A. Aquarium and Singapore Zoo, as well as a range of enriching activities led by visitors in school. These experiences give children greater context for their learning and help them make meaningful connections between the classroom and the wider world, showing them that learning happens everywhere, not just at school.
CCAs run after school from 3.30pm. The programme changes each term, and parents can register for activities at the start of each term period.
We welcome families to visit through our weekly open mornings or personal tours. You can book a tour to see our facilities and learn more about the co-curricular programme.
